About the Programme:

The PhD Information Systems programme (IS), is a four-year programme, designed to produce high-calibre information systems scholars, who are well-grounded in theory and practice, with critical thinking and adaptive ability to teach and undertake research to solve business, technological and national problems using digital solutions. It is a blend of coursework and rigorous independent research work, guided by academic mentors, and well-designed policies and procedures to monitor candidates’ progress in the programme. The programme equips students with relevant advanced knowledge and skills to enhance teaching, research, practice and influence policy in various sectors such as tertiary education institutions, consultancy organisations, governmental and business organisation. Students are able to conduct problem-solving research in the field of information systems to address the socio-economic problems in Ghana and beyond.

Objectives

1. Equip students with theoretical and methodological knowledge in information systems for teaching at institutions of higher learning and undertaking research that address contemporary problems in government and in industry.
2. Expose students to higher-level IS research and publications in reputable journals to advance theory, policy and practice.
3. Develop student’s analytic skills critical for effective and efficient resolution of contemporary organisational problems involving the use of digital technologies.
4. Offer elective courses in current and emerging information systems that students can specialise in.
5. Deepen students understanding of the complex and dynamic interactions of information technologies, and their social and legal implications to advance IS knowledge and research skills for national development.

Admission Requirements

Admission Requirements – Local Applicants

Applicants with any of the following qualifications from an institution accredited by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC):

• A research Master’s degree in information systems and related discipline, with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.0.

• A research Master’s degree in non-related discipline with a minimum CGPA of 3.0, in addition to a chartered professional qualification in the specific discipline, may be considered for admission on a case-by-case basis.

Admission Requirements – International Applicants

• International applicants may be admitted based on qualifications from their home country institutions, for which GTEC will determine equivalence and submit it to the University.

• Evidence of proficiency in English Language will be required from students from non-English speaking countries.
