Welcome to the MPhil in Leadership programme at University of Professional Studies, Accra. Leadership remains a critical driver of organizational transformation, innovation, and sustainable development in today’s rapidly changing global environment.

This programme is designed to equip students with advanced leadership knowledge, research competencies, and strategic thinking abilities necessary for effective leadership in both public and private sector institutions. Students are exposed to contemporary leadership theories, organizational development practices, conflict management, stakeholder engagement, and behavioural research methodologies.

Our programme goes beyond theory by fostering ethical leadership, creativity, innovation, and reflective practice. Through collaborative learning and intensive academic engagement, students develop the capacity to address complex leadership challenges and influence positive organizational change.

Philosophy of the Programme

The overall aim of this programme is to equip students with knowledge, research skills in leadership. The programme will also create and communicate the vision and values for the transformation of organisations. Key to achieving the aims of this programme is to develop personal assessments, professional skills, and knowledge in the area of leadership strategy and organizational development through an intensive coaching relationship of participants.

Objectives of the Programme

The specific objectives of the MPhil in Leadership programme are to:

  • Equip students with skills to develop a framework for understanding leadership in the context of culture, customs, and communication.
  • Create a platform to develop the cognitive and behavioural abilities of students to think ethically, creatively, and innovatively in leadership dilemmas and issues.
  • Discuss leadership skills, models, and theories required by contemporary leaders to be successful in the 21st century.
  • Provide an enabling environment for students to build up their social capital with colleagues by sharing their thoughts and experiences on various contemporary issues and leadership challenges.
  • Equip students with the appropriate methodologies for teaching and researching to add value to organisations.

Programme Outcomes

At the end of this programme, students will able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the concept and application of various leadership styles.
  • Analyse the various theories of leadership and its relevance in modern day discussions.
  • Develop new paradigms of leadership to shape the current study of the leadership topics in pedagogy and research.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of global leadership issues and utilize this knowledge for critical thinking, thoughtful analysis, and global-conscious decision-making.
  • Explore different viewpoints in leadership as it relates to both public and private sector institutions.
  • Develop a framework for conducting research and teaching at the tertiary level of education.
