Philosophy of the Programme
The Master of Philosophy in Information Systems is designed to provide you with a solid understanding of information systems as a sociotechnical phenomenon, focussing on the impact of digital technologies on innovation, society, and the law. This programme aims to develop specialists in the field of information systems who possess a deep understanding of both theoretical concepts and practical applications. In addition, the curriculum is designed to provide students with the necessary research abilities to make valuable contributions to the field by conducting their own unique, significant, and independent research projects.
Programme Objectives
The objectives of the Master of Philosophy in Information Systems programme are to:
• Equip students with theoretical and methodological understanding of information systems as a sociotechnical phenomenon in relation to innovations, social and legal implications of digital technologies.
• Develop student’s research and analytical skills in the design and application of digital technologies to solve business problems.
• Offer elective courses in contemporary digital technologies that students can specialise in and be abreast with technology trends and their implications.
• Provide opportunities for further academic pursuits such as pursuing a Ph.D. in Information Systems or related disciplines
Outcome of the Programme
• Undertake research activities in IS and related disciplines at local, national, and international levels
• Effectively teach IS at tertiary education institutions
• Adapt digital technologies implementation and use to local and national settings for greater impact
• Participate in developing ICT policies and strategies at institutional and national levels
• Contribute to the successful implementation of digital initiatives at the national and organisational levels through research and consultancy.
• Increase the country’s published research output in reputable journals and databases

Programme Coordinator’s Profile
Zillah Boye-Doe is a lecturer with the Department of Communication, Faculty of Information and Communications Studies at the University of Professional Studies, Accra. Preceding that, she served as a Graduate Assistant at the School of Graduate Studies, UPSA.
Miss Boye-Doe holds a Diploma and Bachelor of Arts Degree in Public Relations Management from the University of Professional Studies, Accra. She has additionally obtained a Master of Arts degree in Brands and Communications Management and an MPhil in Leadership, both from the same institution.
She teaches classes including public relations writing, business communication, and communication theories. Her research interests encompass digital communication, branding, organisational communication and leadership.
She is the Coordinator for the MA/M.Phil. in Media and Digital Communication Management, as well as the MSc. /MPhil in Information Systems programmes.
