Welcome to the School of Graduate Studies of the University of Professional Studies, Accra. The MBA in Corporate Communications programme is a promising two-year programme under the Department of Communications of the Faculty of IT and Communications.

This programme emphasises on the application of managerial functions in the day-to-day operations and activities of corporate and business enterprises. It focuses on the concepts of management and examines management principles and functions.

The course also discusses motivation and management of stress for effective performance. Furthermore, this course comprehensively analyses individual and group behaviour in organisations. Its purpose is to provide an understanding of how organisations can be managed more effectively and at the same time enhance the quality of employees’ work life.

Programme Philosophy

The MBA Corporate Communications programme is a two-year Master of Business Administration programme that seeks to equip corporate executives as well as aspiring corporate communications practitioners with industry relevant communications and management competencies, knowledge and skills to manage the evolving field of corporate communications.

The uniqueness of this programme lies in the rich blend of contemporary communications courses that traverses both internal and external stakeholders of businesses, marketing management, integrated marketing communications, corporate reputation management, digital media and communications among others.

Graduates of the programme can be employed by both the public and private sector, non-governmental organisations, financial, health, educational and hospitality industries.

Aims and Objectives

Aim

The over-arching aim of the programme is to produce a corporate communications professional with a strong background in business administration. The programme also seeks to empower students to select appropriate Corporate Communications and Management tools for strategic business decisions.

The following are the programme objectives:

• Enable students to formulate management and corporate communications strategies for the achievement of organizational goals.

• Empower students to demonstrate the skills to select appropriate corporate communications and management tools for strategic management decisions.

• Ensure that students develop the ability to translate research findings when professional practice

• Enhance the capacity of students to produce strategic corporate communications and management plans for their organisations.

• Prepare students to demonstrate cognitive skills of critical thinking and analysis necessary for management and corporate communications decision making

Outcomes of the Programme
At the end of the programme students will:
• Appreciate the rules and regulations for producing business letters, memos, reports and also an understanding of the principles of technical communications.
• Realise what Contemporary Business English is and its usefulness for a modern manager/leader.
• Recognise the fundamental guidelines for language use for managers/leaders.
• Become skilled at the basic guidelines for producing speeches.
• Identify the fundamental guidelines required to understand the theory and practice of public speaking.
• Develop the skill to make easy to comprehend Infographics presentations.

Profile of the Coordinator

Dr. Mrs. Linda Narh is a Chartered Marketer by profession, a consultant, and a lecturer with the Faculty of Management Studies at UPSA. She obtained her first degree from the University of Science and Technology (now KNUST) and subsequently obtained a post-graduate diploma certificate from the Chartered Institute of Marketing, UK. She further obtained a master’s in business administration (Marketing) from the University of Liverpool, UK, and her PhD in Marketing from the University of Ghana.

Dr. Narh has vast experience in training and facilitating training programmes in corporate branding, marketing and communications, customer service, professional etiquette, and sales management. She also consults for businesses in the telecommunications, fintech, advertising, and media industries.

Before joining academia, Dr. Narh had extensive experience working in advertising, media, telecommunications, and the financial sectors as a marketing practitioner. Her valuable impact in her field is evident in the various awards her work has received from the Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana (CIMG) and Ghana Information Technology & Telecom (GITTA) Awards.

Dr. Narh currently teaches marketing management and strategic corporate communications at the UPSA School of Graduate Studies. She is the programme coordinator for the Master of Arts in Brand and Communications Management and MBA in Corporate Communications.
