We are delighted to welcome you to the Master of Arts programme in Peace, Security, and Intelligences (MPSI). Our focus on security and intelligence studies spans global, regional, and national levels. The world today is interconnected and interdependent and so are the risks and threats. This is why the MPSI progamme encourages innovative approaches to finding solutions to the myriad security challenges confronting the world today.
As a student of the MPSI programme, you will receive support and guidance from our seasoned academics and academic support staff at the Graduate School in meeting the learning outcomes.

Philosophy of the Programme

The Master of Arts in Peace, Security and Intelligence is designed to equip graduates with specialised skills to identify, tackle, and respond to emerging security and intelligence challenges. MPSI offers the option for academic research through innovative and analytical thinking to developing solutions to old and emerging issues in the security and intelligence landscape.

Aims and Objectives

The MPSI programme aims at developing reflective professionals who understand the complex interplay of issues in the peace, security and the intelligence landscape thereby offering innovative approaches to anticipate, analyse, prevent, manage, and resolve peace, security and intelligence issues situations in Africa.

Objectives of the Programme

The objectives of the programme are to:
a) Introduce students to the principles and management of peace, security and intelligence dynamics.

b) Provide students with a broad theoretical understanding of peace, security and intelligence together with exposure to a range of skills.

c) Emphasise a system-based, cross-cultural approach to peace, security and intelligence and their interrelated analyses and management.

d) Discuss intergroup and interagency collaboration strategies among governments, corporations, institutions, and different stakeholder groups over issues related to governance, especially hybrid forms of peace, security and intelligence provision.

e) Emphasise the management of collaborative forms of international dimensions of peace, security, and intelligence.

f) Emphasise the management of international dimensions of peace, security, and intelligence.

g) Build the capacity of prospective lower, middle, and top-level executives in peace, security, and intelligence.

h) Improve specific practical and analytical skill sets of students to conduct research in peace, security and intelligence.

i) Provide students with an opportunity for a field-based visit.

Outcomes of the Programme

At the end of the programme, students will:

i. Analyse peace, security, and intelligence in multidimensional and integrative perspectives by portraying real-life case studies.

ii. Demonstrate proficiency in policy formulation, analyses and sound research methods in the areas of peace, security and intelligence.

iii. Demonstrate an understanding of the concepts and applicability of peace, security and intelligence and their inherent interrelationship

iv. Apply multidisciplinary approaches to conflict prevention, peace building and security management in their professions, be it at the state and/or societal levels.

v. Develop relevant policies and strategies relating to peace, security and intelligence.

vi. Acquire specialised skill sets to identify, tackle and respond to emerging peace, security and intelligence challenges.

vii. Develop the skills to serve as Foreign Service and military officers, government managers, international NGO staff, human resource managers, educationists, peace and security advocates, community workers, youth advocates, mediators and negotiators.

Programme Coordinator’s Profile

Mr. Michael Kasambata Yaro is a Lecturer at the Faculty of Management Studies and Coordinator of the Master of Arts programme in Peace, Security and Intelligence. He obtained a Master of Science Degree in Defence and International Politics from the Ghana Armed Forces Command & Staff College (GAFCSC), Teshie-Accra. His research work, titled “Improving Regional Integration in West Africa: A Case Studies of the European Union and Lessons for ECOWAS” was adjudged the best dissertation for the 2016/ 2017 academic year. Additionally, Mr. Yaro holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Law (LL.B) from GIMPA Law School, Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Resource Management from Greenhill College (GIMPA) and a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from the University of Wales, UK. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in International Security and Intelligence at the University of Professional Studies, Accra.
