The LLM in Natural Resources and Climate Change Law is designed to equip graduates with a deep understanding of the legal frameworks and political economy governing global natural resources and climate change. The programme focuses on the complex relationships between environmental regulation, natural resource management, and climate change mitigation efforts with particular emphasis on the Ghanaian context. It addresses critical knowledge gaps by exploring issues such as climate change, natural resource extraction, and the political economy, highlighting the pivotal role of law in promoting sustainable development and environmental protection in Ghana. Tailored to meet the advanced academic and professional needs of legal practitioners, corporate in-house counsel, and professionals in the public and private sectors and non-governmental organisations. This programme provides the expertise needed to navigate this dynamic and evolving field.

Programme Outcomes

Graduates of this programme will be able to:

  • Develop a strong understanding of how national and international laws interact to shape policy and regulatory responses to emerging global challenges related to natural resource use and climate change.
  • Understand the theoretical foundations and practical applications of natural resources and climate change law on a global scale.
  • Gain insight into the diverse regulatory techniques used or proposed to address climate change and critically assess their effectiveness and impact.
  • Understand the role and functions of international and national legal institutions in managing climate change and regulating the use of natural resources.
  • Develop a critical awareness of climate change issues and how the global exploitation and mismanagement of natural resources impact climate change.

 

Entry Requirements

Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree or an equivalent law degree from an accredited university/institution and with at least Second Class Lower Division.
  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree holders with Third Class from an accredited university/institution with five years’ work experience. Applicants in this category will be required to go through screening and selection interview.
