The LLM in Competition and Consumer Protection programme is designed to equip graduates with a deep understanding of competition and consumer protection laws at the national, regional, continental, and global levels. The programme draws valuable insights from leading jurisdictions, with a special focus on the African continent. It is designed to meet the high-level academic and professional needs of lawyers in private practice, in-house corporate counsel, and professionals in public and private sector organisations and non-governmental organisations who want to broaden their expertise in this dynamic field.

Programme Outcomes

Graduates of this programme will be able to:

Demonstrate advanced, practical knowledge of the legal dimensions of competition and consumer protection.
Critically analyse legal issues related to competition and consumer protection in areas such as data protection and privacy, cyber law, intellectual property, healthcare, and food and drug regulation.

Explain how competition and consumer protection laws complement each other to safeguard consumer interests.
Demonstrate significant legal analysis skills in the comparative study of competition and consumer protection laws across different jurisdictions.

Understand the regulatory regimes and institutional frameworks governing competition and consumer protection.

Demonstrate an in-depth, integrated understanding of how restrictive trade practices impact mergers and acquisitions.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

a) Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree or an equivalent law degree from an accredited university/institution and with at least Second Class Lower Division.

b) Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree holders with Third Class from an accredited university/institution with five years’ work experience. Applicants in this category will be required to go through screening and selection interview.
