Welcome Message from the Coordinator

Welcome to the Master of Business Administration in Human Resource Management programme at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA). We are delighted to have you join a dynamic community where you will gain the knowledge, skills, and competencies to thrive as a strategic HR professional in today’s complex business environment.

Over two years of study, you will master strategic HRM, HR policy and consulting, people analytics, emerging HR technologies, and the legal and ethical dimensions of managing people. You will learn from experienced faculty and HR practitioners, engage in real-world consultancy projects, and graduate ready to assume managerial positions and shape the HR strategy of organisations. We look forward to supporting you on this journey.

Programme Philosophy

The programme is designed to provide specialised skills in the planning, management, and execution of human resource management tasks. Students critically examine key theories and concepts in Strategic HRM, HR policy formulation, implementation, and evaluation, and engage in practical fieldwork. They are introduced to the consultancy life cycle and equipped with consulting techniques to deliver HR projects in areas such as change management, diversity, business continuity, and managing strikes and boycotts — preparing them to assume managerial positions and uphold organisational accountability to stakeholders.

Programme Objectives

  • Equip students with the ability to align human resource strategies with overall organisational goals to drive growth and competitiveness.
  • Provide students with analytical tools and techniques to make data-driven HR decisions and evaluate workforce effectiveness.
  • Prepare students to apply digital HR tools, artificial intelligence, and HR information systems to modernise people management.
  • Train students to diagnose organisational challenges, design interventions, and provide consultancy services that improve performance across industries.
  • Identify and manage the Alternative Dispute Resolution Act, 2010 (Act 798) within the organisational context.
  • Synthesise and apply the principles of human resource management in alignment with both local and internationally recognised professional certification standards (e.g. SHRM, CIHRM).

Programme Learning Outcomes

  • Apply HR metrics, analytics, and predictive modelling to improve workforce planning, retention, and performance outcomes.
  • Integrate HR technologies — HRIS, AI-driven talent platforms, and digital collaboration tools — into organisational HR systems.
  • Deliver professional HR consultancy services, both as internal advisors and independent consultants, to solve complex organisational problems.
  • Design and implement HR service ventures and innovative workforce solutions, contributing to job creation and national development.
  • Demonstrate ethical judgement, cross-cultural competence, and leadership skills in managing human capital across diverse industries and international contexts.
  • Analyse Alternative Dispute Resolution (Act 798) strategies within the organisational context.
